
Biography
Dan Sutherland, former head of Winds at Alberta College Conservatory of Music, has taught clarinet to all ages and levels of students since 1986. He emphasizes basic technique enabling students to successfully perform the complex language of music. Dan's students have transcended the norm in Alberta and nationally with first place finishes in Royal Conservatory of Music [RCM] exams and local and provincial music festivals. Several have attained or are pursuing university degrees in music. Dan taught clarinet for 17 years at Musicamp Alberta.
Dan has a master’s degree in applied music from the University of Alberta and a bachelor’s degree in performance from the University of Toronto. He frequently supplements the clarinet section of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and freelances as a performer on clarinet, bass clarinet and Eb soprano clarinet. He has appeared with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Red deer Symphony, National Ballet Orchestra, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Orchestra, Canadian Chamber Orchestra, Citadel Theater orchestras and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
In addition to music, Dan has participated in endurance competitions, completing several Ironman competitions and marathons.
